Winnipeg Blue Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters is pleased to announce today that defensive tackle Bryant Turner has extended his contract with the football club, which will keep him in Blue and Gold through 2016.
The 2014 season will be Turner’s fourth with the Blue Bombers, who has emerged as one of the elite defensive tackles in the Canadian Football League. He finished the 2013 season tied for the team lead in sacks with seven, starting all 16 games he was available – missing two due to injury. He finished the season with 14 tackles and two fumble recoveries. Turner was named defensive player of the week in week two for a two tackle, three sack performance in a win over Montreal. He was once again an East Division All-Star for the second straight season, and was also named a CFL All-Star in 2012 after racking up 20 tackles, six sacks and one fumble recovery.
Over his three year Bomber career, Turner has a combined total of 49 tackles, 16 sacks and three fumble recoveries.
"Bryant has proven to be among the elite defensive lineman in our league, but it as much of his on field play as his off field characteristics that make him such valuable asset to our organization,” said General Manager Kyle Walters. “His professionalism, work ethic, and overall desire to be a winner, along with his outstanding football ability, make this a great extension for us.”
