The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have released import linebacker Joe Lobendahn, the team announced today.

“It is with sincere disappointment that we make this move today as Joe has been nothing but a professional in his time with Winnipeg and has always been a fierce competitor and an exemplary leader on and off the field,” said Vice-President and General Manager Joe Mack.  “Unfortunately, due to his past injury history and the projected ratio change on our defence that requires us to start a certain amount of non-imports, we felt this was in the best interest of the Winnipeg Football Club.  We thank Joe for everything he has done for the Blue Bombers over the past four seasons and wish him nothing but the best.”

Lobendahn signed with Winnipeg in 2008 and has played in 45 games, registering 180 defensive tackles, 20 special teams tackles, seven sacks and one interception.  He missed the majority of last season after tearing his ACL in September.

The Blue Bombers have also released non-import defensive back Jerry-Ralph Jules.
