The Winnipeg Football Club today announced that the first of several steel piles were driven into the ground last week marking the beginning of construction of the new stadium at the University of Manitoba site.
“It’s very exciting, with the piles in place soon you will begin to see the structure rise from the ground and the new stadium will take shape,” said Jeff Thompson, Chief Transition Officer. “There is a lot of activity on site, and everything is on track,” he added.
With the construction of the new stadium now underway, the Winnipeg Football Club will be providing regular updates on the major stages of the project through to the scheduled completion in time for the 2012 CFL season.
Fans interested in watching the construction as it unfolds are able to log onto www.bluebombers.com for a live feed from the construction site at the University of Manitoba.
“Our live webcam is a unique way for fans to stay up to date with the ongoing construction,” said Thompson. “We encourage all our fans to go online and watch the structure become a stadium.”
New Preview Centre
Winnipeg Football Club also announced it will be transforming the Winnipeg Sun Centre, located on the second floor of the Blue Bomber offices on Maroons Road, into a corporate preview centre where corporate partners, premium seat holders and season ticket holders can view the various seating options, suite designs and hospitality amenities that will be featured at the new stadium.
All current season tickets holders and new season ticket holders for the 2011 season will be given preferred access to season tickets at the new stadium.
“If you are not yet a season ticket holder, please don’t wait for 2012, get on board in 2011 and you will be given priority seating at the new stadium,” said Jim Bell president of the Winnipeg Football Club.
